The Amtsgerichte (Local Courts or County Courts) are the lowest level in the German Federal Court system. These courts decide on cases involving minor criminal offences or small civil suits. There are several hundred Amtgerichte in Germany. The Amtsgerichte deal with civil cases involving claims up to € 5.000,00, damages and residential tenency matters as well as family matters.
